Sensing opportunities for change

Session 1

In the first session, you will get an overview of the necessary tasks and skills to lead sustainability transitions. You will learn about various types of change, dynamic capabilities, and the role of the organization’s ‘dominant logic’ in the context of change and leadership. During this first module, you will then dive deeper into the topic of ‘sensing opportunities for change’. Overall, the session will tackle the following questions:

  • What are my key tasks as leaders for sustainable change?
  • How can I make sure to be up-to-date with sustainability trends and topics that are relevant for our organization?
  • How can I encourage motivated employees to bring ideas for sustainability?

After this session, you will:

  • Know the differences of leading through continuous and radical change
  • Understand the role of the ‘dominant logic’ for change and leadership
  • Be able to tap into of potential sources of information for sensing relevant sustainability trends

Seizing opportunities for change

Session 2

Once leaders are aware about what is going on around them and what are the potential sustainability trends and issues that may be relevant for their organization, they need to make informed decisions. Hence, in the second session, the focus will be on core tasks of leadership for sustainability, such as sensemaking, visioning, decision making, and agenda setting. During this second module, you will then dive deeper into the topic of ‘seizing opportunities for change’ and tackle the following questions:

  • What are the necessary leadership skills for sustainable leadership and how do they go beyond ‘normal’ leadership?
  • How can I make value-based decisions thereby balancing strategic business interests and responsibility for environmental issues? How can I deal with the related ‘clash of values’?
  • How can I create an inspiring vision and include employees and other network partners in this process?


After this session, you will:

  • Understand how leadership for sustainability transitions goes beyond ‘normal leadership’
  • Be aware of the role of intuition and mindfulness in this context
  • Be able to consider sustainability issues in their decision making processes
  • Know how to inspire others and involve them in the change process

Transforming the organization

Session 3
Live & On-Demand
Feb 2, 2023 , 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Once leaders have decided for certain business opportunities, CSR activities or internal changes, they need to bring them to life. Hence, Module 3 of the Sustainable Leadership Masterclass is focusing on ‘transforming the organization’ before the backdrop of the existing organizational culture and ‘dominant logic’. In this module, you will learn about best-practices of change management in the context of sustainability. This third module will deal with the following questions:

  • What are the steps of successful change management and what is my role as a leader in this change?
  • How can I motivate groups of people to join the change? What do I need to do in order to remove obstacles for change?
  • How do I know if the change was successful?


After this session, you will:

  • Know the necessary steps you need to take for successfully leading the change
  • Understand how you can motivate others for the change and remove obstacles for them
  • Be able to apply the ‘organizational change canvas’ to your own change situation
